PhD, IWE, Researcher in Welding

Dr. María Asunción Valiente Bermejo was awarded her Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry with a major in Industrial Chemistry from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Spain. She obtained her IIW International Welding Engineer (IWE) certificate in 2000 as well as her Master’s degree in Welding from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB). Her MSc thesis focused on aluminium GTAW.

For a period of 9 years, she worked and studied simultaneously, dividing her time an efforts between her job as a Technical Consultant and Quality Manager in a Spanish company (CODESOL) with her external PhD candidacy at UB. In 2010, she was awarded her PhD for a mathematical model to forecast FN in austenitic stainless steel welds and for her research on the transition between solidification modes. It is the latter research work which received in 2012 the Henry Granjon Prize-Category B.

Dr. Valiente also obtained the Certificate for Pedagogical Competence (CAP) and her 4 years experience in teaching includes Technical Colleges, Secondary Schools and seminars at Universities.

Since 2011, Dr. Valiente Bermejo has been an active member of IIW (International Institute of Welding) subcommissions IX-H and II-C. Since March 2014 she is the Vice-Chair of subcomission IX-H (Weldability of stainless steels and nickel-base alloys).


Since March 2013 she works as a researcher in the Department of Engineering Science at University West (Trollhättan, Sweden).
